WHY TAKE THIS COURSE?
Corporate governance is under sharper scrutiny than ever, with rising expectations from regulators, investors, and wider society. Finance leaders are expected not only to understand governance frameworks but also to ensure their organisations apply them with integrity, purpose, and accountability.

This course provides a clear and practical introduction to governance, giving you the knowledge, context, and tools to support your board and play an active role in shaping effective governance within your organisation.

Through expert input and interactive case discussions, you’ll explore frameworks, board responsibilities, reporting requirements, and current governance trends. You’ll leave with the confidence and practical insight to contribute more effectively to governance conversations and decision-making.

WHAT YOU’LL LEARN
By the end of this course, you will be able to:

• Recognise how effective governance drives strategy and value beyond compliance.
• Benchmark governance frameworks against recognised UK and international standards, principles, and codes.
• Understand what makes an effective board, including composition, skills, and responsibilities.
• Assess governance structures and reporting requirements – financial and non-financial.
• Stay up to date with current governance trends and ICAEW’s latest thought leadership.
